This release is the latest development of the labelʼs effort to present works that explore the various possibilities of sound, while also engaging with studio experimentation, materiality, processes, and diverse techniques to create and treat sound. The labelʼs objective is to reach listeners and spectators on a personalized level while facilitating the independent distribution of sound and visual artistʼs work that are often hard to experience within the local community or the cultural landscape of the world at large. To find out more about Andrea Borghi please visit the artistsʼ section within the label at www.contoureditions.com ----- Salnitter focuses on a continuous and constant material revision of various tactile, acoustic, electroacoustic, and electronic sources, being explored, taking shape and evolving over the years. The works were accomplished algorithmically with a MAX/MSP patch. The software's interface for live improvisation only controls the range of different degrees of organization between determination and indetermination, allowing for various levels of control and aleatoric results to take shape. The title Salnitter (saltpeter) refers to the medieval theological principle according to which creation is carried out for contraction. Andrea Borghi, 2015. "A short set of six pieces on this 3" disc, constructed via software, microphones and other effects. The music is quite subdued, ranging from soft crackling to sustained, quasi-ambient, near-tonal hums, to ringing metal tones embedded in liquid splatter. Each brief track is discrete and self-contained and each is a very enjoyable nugget, often bearing a beguiling percussion/electronics feel. On the one hand, there are sounds and ideas here that I'd love to heard explored at greater length but on the other, there's something very satisfying about the notion of a delicious morsel. A small gem well worth hearing."Brian Olewnick, Just outside, 13 October  2014

"Twenty minutes of high end electro-acoustic compositions throwing some beautiful textures and capturing a noise that is never too abstract. A sound is found / created and developed (albeit in a short space of time), minutae tweaks, stretching, crashing, tumbling and crumbling. Non of the sounds are too abrasive either. Tempered and controlled. An excellent release. SQRT is a label that now needs to be discovered."Steve Cammack, Muhmur, 18 September 2014

VETRALE    |     Limited Edition CDR Obs* (RUS) http://abser1.narod2.ru/releases/obs_044/ obs * instrument|(л65) 044 cdr 38 min, limited to 65 handnumberedcopies,4 monochromecards fragment  03vetravox.mp3 "Andrea Borghi use of modified turntable, elaborated glass discs, computer and effects is much more alike the underground section of the serious academic composers, the scene which is sometimes called 'microsound', 'click 'n cuts' or 'noise', or perhaps even something else. But to take a single object, like 'elaborated glass discs', and record whatever sound comes off it, and then use it further in all sorts of configurations is of course the same as many of his serious peers do. He too has six pieces here, all of them untitled, and displaying a fine sense for the more minimal approach. Once in motion, his pieces only evolve slowly. The sound is looped around, no doubt due to the use of the turntable and the splintered sounds of shattered glass flies about. Borghi adds a minimal amount of electronics to it, which sometimes provide the change of the detail. Borghi's work is a fine display of music where boundaries don't count anymore. It can be a bit of ambient, noise, musique concrete, microsound, and it all blends together as easily as it's natural. A fine work, if not always the most unheard off: there is of course a whole scene of people doing this, but then you knew this from these pages already."
  Frans De Waard
"Instrumentation for this solo disc is listed as, "modified turntable, elaborated glass discs, computer, effects" and the several handsome photos included on oversize cards depict a stylus and dirt-bestrewn platter. These lead one to anticipate a rougher go of things than is actually the case; perhaps the computer and "effects" leavened matters out a bit. Whatever the case, the sounds are very attractive, dense and multicolored. he six tracks all possess an elusive rotating quality as befits their origin, a cycling kind of hum beneath a fine sizzle. As a rough analogy, think of the better music produced by Gunter Muller and crew in the early oughts and throw in a few handfuls of gravel. Absorbing throughout, a handsome package and a very good recoding."  Brian Olewnick  "VETRALE investigates the connection between space and matter through generated sound as an item for their integration/interaction. Technology and electronic is used to focus on frequency fields and sound details otherwise inaudible. The sound becomes tactil, the matter audible. Ideal follow up as a personal research on material sounds begins with Omaggio a Lucio Fontana (2010) and continues with Vetrale (2011) as a performing act that expresses an idea of Sonorous Spatialism." Andrea Borghi: modified turntable, elaborated glass discs, computer, effects.

F. Wallace installation at La Versiliana, Pietrasanta (Lucca, Italy)  released 25 October 2012  Andrea Borghi: electric bass, microphones, computer, effects, samples and field recordings.  "Many a time I hear contemporary electronic music that immediately catapults me back to the classic work of the 60s (Riijmakers, Koenig, et al). I often wonder if I'm being too hasty making those connections. Well, Borghi is explicit about it, so I'm on solid ground, at least about that. Ten short pieces using real-time editing software. Borghi's music is refreshingly subdued and subtle bearing none of the flashy, cool sounds for cool sounds' sake that often infects the genre. While the referents may often ring a bell, the way they're deployed and tinged lend the desired 21st century aura to the work. It's interesting the way it (unintentionally) relates to the Akiyama/Gburek release above: a very similar contemplative sensibility, a fine insistence on non-stridency and inhabiting an indentifiable zone while finding great variety therein. Borghi's incorporation of electric bass into the proceedings serves him well, allowing the gentlest of pulses to buoy the fragile sounds atop. A fine recording, recommended too!"                                                                 Brian Olewnick, Just outside Tuesday, March 12, 2013
